Our Commitment: Creating a Welcoming Experience for Neurodiverse Travelers

Apr 4, 2024 | Hospitality

LAS is committed to providing the best customer journey for neurodiverse travelers. To improve the customer experience, we regularly offer educational opportunities for our workforce so they may learn how to best support our guests with autism and neurological differences.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and we’re partnering with UNLV’s Ackerman Center on April 16 and 17 to host an Autism and Neurological Differences Workshop for airport employees. The workshop will provide practical knowledge and insights for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. The Ackerman Center serves individuals and families living with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions.

Additionally, the airport offers a unique online training course, Autism Experience, to give employees the tools to interact with and respond to guests with empathy and care.

LAS has also worked with MagnusCards to provide a free app designed for individuals who have autism or other cognitive special needs. The free app offers “decks” of cards with detailed step-by-step instructions for navigating the airport. The cards help decrease stress during standard airport procedures like checking in, security screening, finding a restroom, boarding an airplane and retrieving luggage.
