Department of Aviation’s Focus on Sustainability

Apr 8, 2024 | Sustainability

As air travel to and from Southern Nevada continues to soar to new heights, the Clark County Department of Aviation (CCDOA) is working to make sure sustainability is at the forefront of future growth.

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) first achieved Level 1 certfication of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program in 2023. This year, Henderson Executive Airport (HND) and North Las Vegas Airport (VGT) joined LAS by obtaining Level 1 accreditation. These three airports joined 500 others around the world dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of their operations.

In order to achieve this accreditation, the DOA calculated the carbon footprint of all three airports and committed to making them publicly available. These calculations will be used as the baseline to measure future sustainability efforts.

Putting that commitment into action, four electric buses hit the road just before the Formula 1 Grand Prix in November. These buses move travelers between the airport terminals and the Rent-A-Car Center. In the coming year, an additional 16 buses will join that route, providing a clean ride for millions of travelers each year.
