New partnership supports ASL passengers

Harry Reid International Airport is enhancing its special assistance program by introducing a new pilot initiative with the Aira ASL app. This program provides live, on-demand American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for hearing-impaired travelers at the airport. Launched ahead of the 2025 DeafNation World Expo & Conference in Las Vegas, this initiative aims to create a more accessible and confident travel experience for thousands of deaf and hard of hearing visitors.

The Aira ASL app connects travelers to certified ASL interpreters via secure, live video calls directly from their smartphones. This service ensures clear communication during check-in, security screenings, and while navigating the terminal. It is available at no cost to travelers at LAS, as well as at Henderson Executive and North Las Vegas Airports.

“Harry Reid International Airport is committed to ensuring that every traveler feels welcome and supported throughout their journey,” said Rosemary Vassiliadis, Director of Aviation. “Adding the Aira ASL app broadens the resources we offer to passengers and complements our existing tools, such as the Aira Explorer app, which assists travelers who are blind or have limited vision, and the MagnusCards app, designed to help guide travelers with cognitive disabilities through airport procedures.”

Travelers are encouraged to download the Aira ASL app before their arrival or as soon as they reach the airport to receive seamless, live ASL support during their journey.
