DT Arts Market shines a light on local creators

Terminal 1’s DT Arts Market features a mini Las Vegas Arts District, a section of the store where travelers can shop for accessories, art, and gifts, all by local creators.

We recently caught up with Las Vegas artist Gem Jaxx, whose vibrant, edgy pop art is available inside the store.

Jaxx describes her style as bold and energetic, designed to draw attention. She grew up visiting Las Vegas and is heavily influenced by the city she now calls home.

“It’s always been a connection to me,” Jaxx says. “My work has a lot of historic Vegas elements in it because they’re not here anymore, and I want to keep them alive.”

Jaxx found out about the opportunity to be part of the DT Arts Market through a fellow artist. She assembled a catalog of her creations and submitted it to the store’s operators, Marshall Retail Group. The result was a variety of products adorned with her artwork landing on the store shelves, including trucker hats, tote bags, and zippered pouches. There are also poster prints and art packs consisting of mini canvases and stickers.

She says one of the best things about being part of an airport shop is the large number of people who get to see her creations as they travel through.

“It’s amazing. It’s one of those dreams where, as an artist, you can only dream of your work being seen where there are millions of people coming through,” Jaxx said. “I’m also receiving great messages from people I’ve never met before. They find my information here and they’re taking pictures and tagging me. It’s just really inspiring and it’s pushing me to do more and more, and I’m just thrilled.”
