Turkey trot your way through Thanksgiving with our top travel tips

Nov 24, 2025 | Travel Tips

Thanksgiving travel is expected to be busier than ever this year. If you’re flying from Harry Reid International Airport, we’ve got some essential travel tips to make your journey as smooth as gravy.

Arrive early

With the surge in holiday travelers, plan to arrive at least two hours before domestic departures and three hours ahead of international flights to allow ample time for check-in, security screening, and getting to your gate.

Check flight status

Before heading to the airport, verify your flight status with your airline for any changes or delays. Check in online and use a mobile boarding pass to save time at the airport.

Come prepared

Review what may and may not be brought through security by visiting tsa.gov. Pack a refillable water bottle for the trip and use post-security filling stations to stay hydrated. Keep medications, chargers, and essentials in your carry-on bag in case of weather or traffic delays.

Parking

You can reserve your spot in advance at harryreidairport.com/parking. Daily rates are $28 at Terminal 1 (Level 2M of the Long Term garage) and $21 at Terminal 3 (Level 1 of the Long Term garage).

If the Terminal 1 Economy Lot reaches capacity, drivers may be directed to the overflow lot at 576 Kitty Hawk Way or the Remote Lot near the Airport Rent-A-Car Center. Allow an extra 30 minutes for shuttle service.

Terminal 3 typically has more parking available during busy periods. Travelers who are flying without checked bags can use the security checkpoint at T3 and take the tram to get to the D Concourse and Terminal 1, even if their airline is at Terminal 1.

To help with travel planning, we’ve posted our Thanksgiving parking forecast below.

Picking up friends or family?

Remember, no waiting on the curb. Wait in the Cell Phone Lot located just off Kitty Hawk Way. It’s free to use and open daily from 6 a.m.-1 a.m. You can also pull into Short Term parking and exit without charge if you’re there 15 minutes or less.

One final tip

Pack your patience for a trip that’s easy as (pumpkin) pie!
